I tend to buy the runts at the nursery, especially trees, and they do well if I give them some attention until they get settled in! Now I'm working on growing from seeds in funky containers in my new greenhouse... cheaper than buying plants, and hopefully will fill the salad bowl this summer! You can find it all over SoCal. Lots of variety in color up in Santa Barbara. So, so pretty. I figure, I take in stray animals, why not plants. Everyone deserves a second chance. Bouganvilla is wonderful to grow. I bring it in over the winter. It is more in the wisteria family, growth wise and loves to be pruned. Kudzu always makes me think of helping my FIL in N. Carolina try to weed it out. Talk about wasting energy! LOL!
