dreams afoot

I'm starting to imagine the kind of things I'll be working on at ACA.  This piece is six by twelve feet.. There will be some color too, but I wanted to stop here with just an impression.

I'm one of those artists who do not keep a sketch book. I rarely even doodle because I've found that once I've put a thought on paper, there it stays. I could challenge that, of course, but I woke up with this in my head and needed to keep it. The ones that come in dreams need to be attended to closely. All the designs I've been working on lately have fit within a seven inch circle.

Time to break out.

A question for my readers who dye their own cloth with Procion MX... Which is your favorite black and why?

That's gobstopping gorgeous as it is as a drawing---can just see it as your fabric muse----with lots of threadwork :) i'd be interested to hear about the blacks too since i am so bad at using Procion!

often i just use the paper to empty my head, rarely using the sketch as a guide, just an escape. to make space

Keeping the dream! So much in that drawing to translate into fabric! As someone who does keep a sketch book I have found that some ideas never go beyond the sketch. The ' I have already done that' happens quite a bit in fact. But those ones that nag and nag and nag to get done are the ones I finally do!

I use a combination of blacks from DT - #300 New Black and #44 Better Black, mixed 4 tsp each to 8 oz water. And I really love this design! I'm not much of a sketcher... usually just the bare bones when I do, but they help me compose a piece.
