eyes wide open

As I work on this with ever tinier stitches  (I've switched over to the 2.0 cheaters - I keep thinking about distant horizons, wider vistas and working larger. Thinking of each little element as if it was measured in feet instead if thread counts. Judy Martin's recent post has given me another point of  view about working large with cloth. Commitment to the outcome after long, long engagement is a daunting prospect. It's not like there's a shortage of raw materials around here.

Meanwhile, I've been touring other art courtesy of a crazy little widget on the bottom of each post at Oh, What a World and other sources. Getting away from cloth and standing back to look at other art  has  been refreshing. Take a look at the work of Paul Baumer, Brian Rutenberg, Emily Mason, Clare Kuo and Clara Fiahlo  among others...are you drunk yet?

Thank you for the fab selection of artists - have you noticed how similar your work is to theirs, i.e. color blocking [intentional or not] loved Emily Mason, Clara Fiahlo[am very familiar with her work for a while now] and Brian Rutenberg. The other two left me cold -too many similar city scapes with Paul and Clare Kuo seemed to have limited color choices. But the whole while I was viewing these fab pieces, I kept refering to various pieces you have done - you definitely have a style, are on track with your own vision - and yes, I am absolutely drunk from imbibing this glorious art work this AM - thank you for the links-

Judy's post had me pulling out old sketches that i thought were still to be developed--turns out they're perfect as "one liners"--interesting to see how some of us are ready to go big and go simple--sounds like an exciting way to go--always wanted to be more "gestural"--artspeak aside, a line a day (or week or month or year) could be quite an exploration

Love Brian's works, and I see how fabrics could be used for some killer abstracts... I'm tempted to try one on canvas with gel medium! Love how some of his works have that 'frayed' look... threads dangling!
