we host the hordes

We had to let the swimming pool "go green" early last year when Jim was in the hospital and then we let it become a biosphere over the winter months. I hate putting the cover on the pool. With all the rain, we are about two weeks behind in cleaning and refilling it but the local tree frogs were right on schedule. The racket at night has been deafening. They put up the "Froggy Club Med" sign and have been doing what comes naturally in the spring and now we have about a million tadpoles in 4 inches of green water. I couldn't stand the notion of running the entire population through the sump pump so I got down in the slime with a net and bucket and rounded up about half of them and drove down the block to empty then into the stream. Hope the neighbors downstream enjoy the racket.

It is very mild of you to save at least part of them!

What a riot! I totally understand where you are coming from. I do love the sound of the peepers.

Thanks for the laugh. I would however, take peeping frogs over the guy chopping wood at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning ANYTIME!

Good on ya for trying to preserve them. Just think of all the buggies that won't harass you this summer.

Oh boy, Deb, we did this, but on a small scale. We have one of those kiddie wading pools in our yard, for our dogs, birds, squirrels and whatever. It isn't long before we have both tadpoles, and mosquito larva. What a mess. Like you, we didn't want to kill the tadpoles. So, we get a couple of goldfish to eat the larva. That works. But, when winter comes, what happens to the goldfish? You guessed right. We now have an in house aquarium for the goldfish, and more larva in the pool. And tadpoles. And tree frogs. We wondering, what's next?

I love the fact that you did this chore and saved the tadpoles. I would have done the same. Good for you. I love the photo of the frog.
